Have you been feeling hopeless? Unhappy? Uninterested in the things you used to love? You’re noticing increased feelings of self-doubt, despair, sadness, and loneliness. You’re experiencing a decrease in your energy and motivation. Changes in your appetite or sleep schedule are affecting your daily life. You are feeling less in control of your emotions and behaviors and more helpless, powerless and lost.
Your day-to-day life is starting to be affected. You’re finding it difficult to complete the necessary tasks of daily life. You’re getting overwhelmed or irritated by “small things” more often. You are feeling more and more behind on things and it feels like the finish line keeps moving farther away. You may notice yourself wanting to isolate or withdraw from others. You may even be having passive or active thoughts of hurting yourself.
If this sounds familiar to you, you may be struggling with symptoms of depression. As a clinical therapist, working with depression is one of my specialties. My style is warm, supportive, direct and clear. As the client, you are in full control of what we discuss and at what pace. If you are in the driver’s seat, I am the tour guide, helping you decide which direction you’d like to go and what steps to take to get there. I am open and receptive to all issues, struggles, perspectives and walks of life. I offer a gentle but firm, non-judgmental approach.
I am pleased to offer a safe, cozy and comfortable space for my clients. In sessions, we can work together based on your personal comfort and safety level. It is important to me to establish a strong foundation of trust and understanding with you. *We do not have to jump into talking about anything too deep, heavy or traumatic if you aren’t ready for it, but we can also dive right into it if that’s what you would like. *
We will work together to create a personalized treatment plans and goals just for you. As the client, you will be included in the process and are encouraged to give your feedback, input, and ideas. We will work on finding your strengths as well as drawing on patterns and cycles that I may notice from previous sessions with you. Together, we will work on developing coping skills to help manage your symptoms of depression that are unique and specific to you.
In our sessions, we will work on recognizing negative self-talk as well as unhelpful or defeating thoughts, patterns and cycles. I will guide you and teach you how to check in with and monitor “automatic” negative thoughts and challenge or replace those thoughts when necessary. We can work on overcoming self-doubt and putting yourself down, as well as developing and strengthening skills to trust yourself to know what to do or find the resources you may need during times of increased depressive symptoms. We will also work together to create a “Safety Plan” if you have self-harming thoughts or thoughts of suicide.
Through our work together, you will develop a new perspective and outlook. You will be held accountable to meet your goals and practice developing skills and behaviors to improve your mood because I believe you can handle that successfully. You will learn to recognize the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In our sessions, we will work on strengthening and honoring your mind-body connection.
I can help you to accurately recognize and label feelings in a non-judgmental, safe space. You may be processing the cycle of depression and negativity in your head with no way to resolve it. My specialty is working with those trapped thoughts. You may get an idea in your head and the negative or difficult feelings may grow. I am here to serve as sounding board for those feelings, to help explore, process and move through them in a supportive, safe environment.
Throughout our sessions, we will continually check in on your progress and discuss the current frequency and intensity of your initial symptoms, as well as anything else that may be discovered along the way. You will notice a decrease in depressive symptoms: feeling less sad, isolated, unmotivated, and hopeless. You will also create and develop positive, healthy coping resources and tools for dealing with your daily life stressors and recurrent symptoms in a more sustainable way.
We can reduce your reliance on unhealthy coping behaviors: drinking, drugs, toxic relationships, self-harm, addictive behaviors, etc. We can work together to acknowledge the things you can let go of and learn what is in your circle of control. You can reduce your irritability and annoyance related to depression while learning more about your personal triggers and warning signs.
You do not have to continue to suffer, to feel hopeless, remaining stuck in the cycle of negative thoughts and feelings. Feeling lost, helpless or powerless over your emotions is a very difficult and draining place to be. You do not have to struggle with the continued depressive symptoms, utilizing unhealthy coping skills or avoiding the feelings altogether. You may even find yourself developing more physical symptoms in response to emotional distress or depression, such as headaches, lack of energy, weakness, sore muscles, nervous stomach, etc. Without treatment you may feel overwhelmed by a lack of resolve.
In our sessions together, you will learn helpful skills to take control and ownership over yourself and your emotions. We will implement accountability and structure with a detailed plan to work toward your goals. You will see increased motivation, productivity and self-empowerment. You can utilize this hour each week to focus solely on yourself. You deserve that!
