Frequently Asked Questions
Why do people seek therapy?
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons—sometimes it’s anxiety, parenting challenges, identity struggles, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Whether you’re facing a recent life transition or exploring long-standing emotional wounds, therapy can offer space to process, heal, and grow. We’ll work together to create a plan that fits your unique needs.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or unsure of where to go next, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit—many of our clients come simply to better understand themselves and improve their quality of life. If you’re even thinking about starting therapy, that’s usually a sign you’re ready.
What can I expect during my first session?
At our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’re hoping to work on, and go over the paperwork you completed online. We’ll take time to explore whether this feels like the right fit and begin outlining some goals together. There’s no pressure—we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes! All sessions at R&R Mental Health Counseling are conducted online through a secure telehealth platform. This allows us to serve clients across Indiana with flexible, convenient therapy that fits into your life—no commute required.
What are your session fees?
Our standard rates are $150 for individual therapy and $175 for couples or family sessions. We’re also in-network with Aetna, United Healthcare, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you’re using out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill to help you request reimbursement from your insurance provider.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we currently accept Aetna, United, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you’re not sure whether your plan includes mental health coverage, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly or visiting Headway for help checking your benefits.
How long is each session?
Each therapy session is typically 60 minutes. We usually start by meeting weekly to build momentum and adjust the frequency based on your progress and needs.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Missed sessions or late cancellations without notice are subject to a $100 fee. We do this to respect your time, our time, and to keep availability open for other clients who may need support.
What issues do you specialize in?
We specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, new parents, and busy moms who are navigating anxiety, identity, boundaries, life transitions, and family-of-origin wounds. We also support clients exploring codependency, postpartum challenges, emotional regulation, and self-esteem. If your story doesn’t fit into a perfect box—that’s okay. We’re here for the complexity.
What therapy approaches do you use?
We take a holistic, eclectic approach—drawing from evidence-based methods like CBT, EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Attachment-Based Therapy. We’ll tailor our work to what feels most helpful and aligned for you. There’s no one-size-fits-all here—your therapy is your own.
Do you work with teens without their parents?
Yes, we work with adolescents ages 12 and up. While parental involvement is often helpful, we respect the teen’s privacy and autonomy. We’ll keep lines of communication open with parents as appropriate, while also creating a safe, confidential space for the teen to explore and express themselves.
I’m a mom and I feel lost—can therapy help?
Absolutely. Many of our clients are moms who feel like they’ve lost touch with who they are. Therapy can help you reconnect with your identity, explore your own needs, and create healthier boundaries—without guilt.
I just had a baby and don’t feel like myself. Is this normal?
You’re not alone. Many new parents experience emotional ups and downs, identity shifts, and even symptoms of postpartum anxiety or depression. Therapy can offer a supportive, non-judgmental space to process those feelings and find your footing again.
What ages do you work with?
We work with adolescents (ages 12+), young adults, and adults across all life stages. Our practice is especially well-suited for clients navigating big life transitions—whether it’s entering adulthood, becoming a parent, or trying to reconnect with your sense of self.
How do I get started?
We offer a free 15-minute consultation to talk about your needs and see if we’re a good fit. From there, we’ll walk you through the next steps and get you scheduled. You can reach out anytime to get started—we’re here when you’re ready.
